Product Description

Another Allied WWI Spad. Nicknamed Vieux Charles, it is a true miniature replica of Guynemer’s plane, still revered in France today. The Spad XIII was a French biplane fighter aircraft of World War I, developed by Société Pour L'Aviation et ses Dérivés (SPAD). It was one of the most capable fighters of the war, and with 8472 built one of the most-produced. It first flew on April 4, 1917, and the following month was already being delivered to the French Air Service. Other Allied forces were quick to adopt the new fighter as well, and nearly half of the 893 purchased for the United States Army Air Service were still in service in 1920. The S.XIII was flown by famous fighter pilots such as Georges Guynemer and Rene Fonck from France, Italy's Francesco Baracca and the United States Army Air Service's Eddie Rickenbacker.

Features include: Delicate silk cloth fabric stretched over a lightweight wood frame. Detailed wing rigging comes pre-assembled. Leather Seat. Laminated rotating wood propeller. Detailed engine cover - riveted parts and struts. Hand fitted spoke wheels. Painted nylon canvas finish. Home décor with a story. This model is not a kit. It is ready for display.
